Henceroth, Debbie Dukes, 64, of Rayland, passed away peacefully at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, on Friday, March 8th, after a courageous battle with lymphoma. She was born on July 11, 1954, in Wheeling, WV, the daughter of Inez and Ellsworth Dukes of Bridgeport. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Carol Sue Dukes.
Debbie married her husband Fred in 1974 and would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on March 16th. She was a 1972 graduate of Bridgeport High School and graduated from the Ohio Valley General Hospital School of Nursing as the class valedictorian in 1975. Debbie worked in various nursing and administrative roles for 34 years at Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling, before transitioning to Lifeline Hospital for 2 years and West Virginia Mutual for 6 years, retiring in 2017. She was an active member of Meadowbrook Church of God in Rayland, involved in the women’s group, teaching Sunday School, playing the piano, and singing in the choir.
Debbie is survived by her husband Fred, her children Casey Henceroth of Columbus and Aaron (Colette) Henceroth of Newton Falls, and grandchildren Isabella and Dawsyn. She is also survived by her brother Philip (Bobbie) Dukes of Moundsville and cousins Judy Carter of Martins Ferry and Sally (Mark) Fry of St. Clairsville.
Visitation will be at Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Road in Bridgeport on Thursday, March 14th from 3-8pm. A celebration of Debbie’s life will be held on Friday, March 15th at 11am, with visitation preceding at 10am, at Bridgeport Church of God, 859 National Road in Bridgeport. Burial will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens in Pleasant Grove. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Meadowbrook Church of God, Bridgeport Church of God, or The James Cancer Center (www.pelotonia.org/henceroth). The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to family and friends who sent numerous messages and cards throughout the duration of Debbie’s illness and a special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at The James Cancer Center at The Ohio State University.
