Fred Melnick, 95, of Bridgeport, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2019 in the Continuous Care Center. He was born in Bridgeport on January 25, 1924 a son of the late John and Amelia Melnick. He served his country during WWII in the Army Air Corps, was a retired coal miner and a member of the United Mine Workers of America, also he was a member of the American Legion and the Colerain VFW Post 8848. Fred spent every summer fixing lawn mowers, Fred Melnick the Lawnmower Man, if he can’t fix it no one can! He was very much loved and will be sadly missed by all.
He is survived by his daughters, Jaynee (Ralph) Capps and Judie Melnick; sons, Fred (Sharon) Melnick and Mike (Bridgette Holler) Melnick; a brother, Jerry Melnick; a sister, Katherine McGuire; 3 grandchildren, Phil (Stephanie) Sauvageot, Tina Sauvageot and Nicole and 3 great grandchildren, P.J., Carson and Roman Sauvageot.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Thelma in 2016; 7 brothers, John, Leo, Bill, Rich, Ed, George and Bob Melnick and 2 sisters, Helen Vargo and Hilda Jackson.
Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Rd, Brookside. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 11 am in the funeral home with Reverend James Hoff officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery. With Military Honors provided by the Belmont County Veterans Association.
