Stanley Wilk Obituary

Stanislaw (Stanley) Josef Wilk, 93, of Lansing, Ohio, died on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at Country Club Rehabilitation Campus in Bellaire.

“Stush” was born July 17, 1925, in Niendowka, Poland, to parents Marcin and Katherina Wilk. He is preceded in death by his wives Verena (1993) and Loretta (2016), and siblings Walter, Aniela, and Maria.  He is survived by his brother Jozef in Poland, and his daughters Nancy Collins (Larry), Charlene Panepucci (Domenic), Debra Mountain (Mark), and Michelle Wilk; and stepchildren Katherine Stalnaker (Thomas, daughter Stephanie, granddaughter Tessa), Dan Rine (Freda) and Calvin Rine (Cheryl.)  He is also survived by his nine grandchildren: Vanessa, Brent and Christopher Panepucci; Stephanie Collins-Dowden and Andrea McKendrick; Thaddeus and Lucas Mountain, Tryniti Metz, and Brigid Ungaro; four great-grandchildren: Raycer, Raena, Rhys and Everett; four step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren. He leaves behind his beloved cat Maddie.

Stanley and Verena immigrated from Germany in 1949 after his discharge from military service. He had served in WW II in the Polish Guard Unit employed by the American 7th Army Occupation Forces in Germany.

Stanley was a retiree of Ormet Corporation, Hannibal, Ohio. He was a member of the local Polish National Alliance (PNA), serving as president for many years, on the PNA Council, and as a national delegate to the Polish American Political Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports, and, above all, gardening. Many will remember his enormous sunflowers and super-sized vegetables, which he shared with so many.  His most enjoyable activity was his 24 years of participation in Cardiac Rehab at East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry, Ohio. There he was the beloved “flower man” who planted and nourished a beautiful flower garden on the premises every summer, earning him photo features in the hospital magazine and interviews with the Times Leader newspaper.  The friendly flower man will be greatly missed by his family, friends and community.

Visitation will be held at Wilson Funeral Home 920 National Road Brookside, on Friday March 22, 2019 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm with wake service to be held at 2 pm at the Funeral Home.
