1st Lieutenant Charles George Reynolds was a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps serving his country in WWII. He was declared Missing in Action in November 1943 when his B25 aircraft was disabled and forced to land in enemy territory near Murik, New Guinea. After the war his remains were recovered and interred at the American Military Cemetery in Manila, Philippines as an Unknown Soldier. In the summer of 2023, the remains were positively identified after being evaluated at the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency laboratory in Hawaii using DNA samples provided by family members, dental records, and historical data. After 80 years, he will be returned to his family to be laid to rest as a hero, alongside his parents, who preceded him in death.

Charles was born in Bridgeport, Ohio on June 16,1919 to John and Mary (Lader) Reynolds. He graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1937 and then went on to Washington & Jefferson College where he excelled in basketball. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and graduated in 1942. Immediately after graduation, he entered pilot training with the Army Air Corps. Upon completion of training, he was stationed at Port Moresby, New Guinea.

Other relatives who passed on before learning of his fate are his siblings, Edward Reynolds, Alice Craver, Catherine Wildpret-Koss, Helen Marty, Madeline Fordyce, and Jess Reynolds, as well as nieces and nephews, Phyllis Craver Wilson, Robert Wildpret, Allan (Tim) Marty, Jr., Rebecca Bishop, and Barbara Fordyce. Charles is survived by his nieces and nephews, Kent (Darlene) Craver, Charlynn (Craig) Burley, and Chuck (Kathy) Marty and many great and great great nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received to honor and celebrate his life at the Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Rd., Brookside, Ohio on Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 12 noon until services at 2 pm with Rev. Dale Giffin officiating. Interment at Weeks Cemetery will follow the services. Full military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army Color Guard.
