A. James "Jim" Edwards, 86, of Carlisle St., Martins Ferry, OH, died Tuesday, Mar. 3, 2009 at East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry. He was born Dec. 17, 1922 in Martins Ferry, OH a son of the late Samuel D. and Lila (Duff) Edwards. Jim retired from the former Picoma Industries. He was a 30 year honorary member of the Martins Ferry Fire Dept. Ladder Co. and former Captain of the E-Squad, a member of the DAV of Bellaire, the First U. Methodist Church, and the former VFW Post #3613 all of Martins Ferry. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Jim had a life long love and hobby of playing the harmonica. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Alfred J. Edwards, a brother, Glen "Sam" Edwards and a sister, Alice T. Bier. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Mary E. (Spinder) Edwards, two sons, David M. (Patty) Edwards of St. Clairsville, OH and Jimmy (Michelle) Edwards of Martins Ferry, a daughter Linda (Clyde) Bondy of Unionville, MO, seven grandchildren; David J., Michael H., Derek A., James C., and Megan N. Edwards, and Jennifer A. and Clyde Bondy, and six great grandchildren. Friends will be received Friday 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH where services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 10:00 am with Rev. Van D. Fisher officiating. Burial follows in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry. Fire Dept. services will be held Friday at 7:00 pm in the funeral home.
