Obituary

Anthony"Tony" Stopera, 92, of Colerain OH died Tues., June 15, 2010 at Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, WV. He was born July 31, 1917 in Avella, PA a son of the late Andy and Nettie (Sudan) Stopera. He retired from the Martins Ferry Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel. Tony was a member of the Colerain Presbyterian Church, SOAR- Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees, V.F.W Post #8848 of Colerain, American Legion Post #38and the former Eagles Aerie #456 both of Martins Ferry, and a life time member of the Wanetta Tribe Improved Order of Redman of Martins Ferry. He was also a veteran of U.S. Navy, WW II where he served on the USS San Jaun. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Tina Marie Stopera, a brother Richard Stopera, and three sisters Emily Hails, Mary Hill, Genevie Fithen. Surviving are his wife of 62 years Isabelle N. (Malatesta) Stopera, a son Tony (Cindy) Stopera of Barberton, OH, a daughter Judy (Roger) Blumling of St. Clairsville, OH, a brother Walter (Dee) Stopera of Rayland, OH, two sisters Sophia Scheehle of Mt. Pleasant, OH and Lillian (Bob) Colder of Holt, MI, two grandchildren Jeffery (Denise) Stephens, and Scott Stephens, and two step grandchildren Jason Blumling and Justin (Shiloh) Blumling. Friends will be received Friday 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH where services will be held Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 11:00 am with Rev. John Brown officiating. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH. Military honors will be presented by the Belmont County Council of the V.F.W. prior to services at the funeral home.
