Arguell E. "Mutt" Helms, 94, formerly of Sunset Heights and Martins Ferry, OH died Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Belmont Manor, St. Clairsville, OH. He was born May 12, 1920 in Cedar Rocks, WV a son of the late Austin and Mary (Shorts) Helms. He was a former employee of Ayers Limestone Quarry and retired from the Ormet Corporation. Mutt was a proud veteran serving in WW II, a life member of Post # 8848 Colerain VFW and a Methodist by faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife Etta (Harding) Helms on December 31, 2010, brothers; William and Clarence (Bud) Helms and sisters; Evelyn Helms Harris, Bessie Miller and Dessie McBean. Surviving are a son Roger (Maria) Helms of Cusseta, GA, daughters; Mary Liz (Gary) Conaway and Judy Jackson all of Martins Ferry, five grandchildren; Cindy (Wally) Chlon, Jason Jackson, Dayn (Stacey) Jackson, Steven Post and Aaron Helms and six great grandchildren; Adam Tychonski, Andrew Chlon, Rachel Jackson, Logan Jackson, Emmett Post and Mackenzie Jackson. Mutt's family would like to thank his "second family" at Belmont Manor for the loving care they gave him even when he was being his ornery stubborn self. He will be missed by his many friends and caregivers. Family and Friends will be received at the Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH Tuesday 4-8 pm and Wednesday, July 30, 2014 from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am with Minister Rod Kasler officiating. Entombment follows at Holly Memorial Mausoleum, Pleasant Grove, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to Valley Hospice, 10686 Ste. Rte. 150, Rayland, OH 43943. Military honors will be presented by the Belmont County V.F.W. Honor Guard at 10:45 am at the funeral home prior to the funeral.
