Obituary

Arnold A. Makara, 97, of Colerain, OH, died Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Peterson Rehabilitation Hospital, Wheeling, WV. He was born June 2, 1917 in Martins Ferry, OH a son of the late Andrew and Veronica (Aleva) Makara of Austria, Hungary. Arnold retired after 50 years from Carpenter's Local #3 of Wheeling. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Martins Ferry and was involved for many years with the Ohio Valley Baseball League. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Marie (Walters) Makara, his daughter, Rose Marie Cole, brothers; John, Andrew, Joseph, Eugene and Theodore Makara and sisters; Martha Poole and Margaret Haranzo. Surviving are his son-in-law, John P. Cole and his son John P. "Johnny" Cole both of Sunset Heights, OH, nephews; Frank (Jean Ann) Haranzo, Jr. of Roanoke, VA and Joseph (Dorothy) Makara of Mingo Junction, OH, his special friend and caretaker, John V. (Kim) Rico of Colerain and Cora West of Bridgeport, OH and Jean Gerevics of Martins Ferry. Family and friends will be received at Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH, Friday 6-8 pm and Saturday, March 7, 2015 from 10 am until time of services at 12:00 pm with Rev. Larry Lewis officiating. Burial at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to: First Baptist Church, 306 Locust St., Martins Ferry, OH 43935.
