Asbury H. Irvin, 72, of N. Zane Hwy., Martins Ferry, OH died Sat., April 24, 2004 at East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry. He was born Jan. 6, 1932 in Martins Ferry a son of the late Harry E. and Esther (Randall) Irvin, Sr. He was retired from the Martins Ferry plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel. Asbury was a Deacon of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and a member of Friendship Council of Churches both of Bridgeport, a member of the NAACP, AARP, and Local #4127 U.S.W. of America. He was Financial Secretary of Softite Federal Credit Union of Martins Ferry and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Alice (Jackson) Irvin and a brother Harry E. Irvin, Jr. Surviving are two daughters Leslie Charania of Novi, MI and Stephanie R. Irvin of Martins Ferry, a brother Kenneth R. Irvin of Bridgeport, five sisters Margaret Platt and Rose Wallace both of Bridgeport, Barbara Galloway of Columbus, GA, Evelyn Johnson of Richmond, IN, and Norma Jordan of Ashtabula, OH, and several nephews and nieces and great nephews and great nieces. Friends will be received Mon. 7-9 PM and Tue. 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH. Funeral services will be held Wed., April 28, 2004 at 1:00 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 200 Howard St., Bridgeport, OH with Rev. Rudy McAllister officiating. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.
