Obituary

FURBEE, Barbara Ellen "Barb" 74, of Bennett Street, Bridgeport, Ohio, died Tuesday December 15, 2009 at Wheeling Hospital. She was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on July 23, 1935, a daughter of the late Wilbur and Florence Duke Snyder. Barb was a retired Club Manager for the Bridgeport American Legion Post #227 for 35 years; a Presbyterian by faith; a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Bridgeport; and the Bridgeport Chapter of the Eastern Star #181; ICOS court, Wheeling; Colerain V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #8848; St. Clairsville American Legion; Precinct Committeeperson for the Democratic Party; former Councilwoman for the Village of Bridgeport; former first lady of Bridgeport; she was also very dedicated to the VFW and American Legion; an advocate for the SPCA; and on the Drill Team for the American Legion. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Jo Furbee and two brothers: Wilbur and Edward Snyder and a sister Patty Lou. Barb is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Charles W. Furbee Sr.; five daughters: Sharon Bodle (David) of Wooster, Ohio; Shelia "Jane" Crawford (Shelly) of Tiltonsville, Ohio: Nancy Weeks (John) of Orlando, Fla.: Pamela Lee Furbee (Frank) of Morgantown, W.Va.; Charlina Taylor (Chris) of Daytona, Fla.; three sons: Charles W. Furbee Jr. Donald Furbee (Rahima) ; David Furbee, all of Columbus; Brothers: Thomas Snyder (Shirley) of Dayton, Ohio; Richard Snyder of Calif.; Donald Snyder of Newark; Jack Snyder of KY., three sisters: Jeanie Williams (Dale) of Urbana, Ohio; Clara L. Snyder of Chesapeake, VA., and June Snyder of Martins Ferry; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren. Private service and entombment will be held at the convenience of the family at Holly Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Road, Brookside, Ohio. Family and friends are invited to a "Celebration of Life" at the Gateway Room, 853 National Road, Brookside, Saturday December 19, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to: Belmont County Animal Shelter.
