BARBARA JEAN BERGQUIST 2/14/1932 ~ 5/3/2019 Barbara Jean Bergquist, 87, of Maineville, Ohio and formerly of Barnesville, Ohio passed away May 3, 2019 at Otterbein Senior Neighborhood. She was born in Barnesville, Ohio on Valentine's Day, 1932, daughter of the late Paul Roby and Stella Ritchie Roby (Chesser). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Diane Roby; step-father, Raymond Chesser; aunt, Jeanette (Paul) Medley; and uncle, Bernard (Ruth) Ritchie. Barbara will forever be remembered by those who survive; daughter, Karin (Linford) Bergquist-Detweiler of Cincinnati, Ohio; brother, Donald Roby of Phoenix, Arizona; nephews, Roderich and Terry Roby both of Arizona; cousins, Robin Graham of Morristown, Ohio, Sue Kelly of El Cajon, California; and aunt, Regina West of Martins Ferry, Ohio. A 1949 graduate of Barnesville High School, Barbara completed her nurse's training at Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Phoenix, Arizona, earning her certification in 1952. Her career in nursing led her to Los Angeles, California where she worked at Veterans Hospital, among others, and then to Phoenix, Arizona and finally to Barnesville Hospital, where she eventually retired as a Registered Nurse after a full life of caring for others for over 40 years. Her personal faith was an important part of her life, as was caring for animals. Her willingness and her warm-heartedness compelled her to help take care of her surviving aunts and uncles, until she, herself became unable to. After suffering from a stroke in 2001, Barbara's daughter, Karin, immediately took over her mother's care and moved her to Cincinnati to be close by. Karin then managed her mother's care for nearly 18 years. In honoring Barbara's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held, Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 1:00 pm, Patron Funeral Homes & Crematory Kelly Kemp Braido, 702 E. Main Street, Barnesville.
