April 9, 1934 – September 5, 2008
On September 5, 2008, Barbara's spirit was lifted up to the Lord from her home in Colerain with her loving husband of 57 years, Norman, and her family by her side. She was born April 9, 1934, in East Liverpool, OH, the daughter of Alfred Shenton and Gladys (Smith) Lott. Barbara was preceded in death by her father Alfred; step-father, Okey Smith; step-father Samuel Lott; and mother Gladys Lott. She was an avid motorcyclist having traveled to 25 states, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, Canada, accompanied by her husband, Norman. She was an employee of Stein-Palmer Printing in Martins Ferry for 26 years. On retirement she and Norman continued their love of the outdoors while traveling in their motor home where they spent several winters at the KOA in Myrtle Beach, SC. She was pianist and music director for church services at the camp ground. In addition to teaching and serving in the choir, she also served as pianist for several years at the Yorkville Methodist Church. After she and Norman moved their family to a new home in Colerain, she served as pianist for church school and Bible school and was a substitute organist at Colerain Presbyterian Church. Also at her new church home, she taught nursery and primary classes and was a choir member. Barbara is survived by her husband, Norman; a son Randall of the home; four daughters and their husbands: Norma (William) Graff and Rebecca (David, Jr.) Horne of Martins Ferry, Pamela (Rockie) Grimes of Bloomington, IN, and Susan (Robert) Lavy of Springfield, VA; five grandchildren Shiloh and Jeremy Norris, Lucas DuJardin, Meghan and Zachary Grimes; brother, C.R. Shenton (Barbara) of Sterling, VA; half-sister, Muriel Lott (James) Holmes of Martins Ferry; and half-sister, Marylou Shenton (Larry) Dawley of Wichita, KS, and several nieces & nephews. Family and friends will be received at Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH. on Sunday, from 12-3 pm and 6-8 pm. Friends will then be received Monday, Sept 8, 2008 at Colerain Presbyterian Church from 10 am until time of services at 11:00 am with Rev. John A. Brown and Pastor Judy Bennett officiating. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Colerain Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 96, Colerain, OH 43916 where she was a member for 47 years. Condolences to the family may be made by signing the guest book at the top of this page.
