Obituary

OWENS, Benjamin James "BJ" "Benny" , 79, passed away at Trinity Medical Center West, on Tuesday September 22, 2009. Ben was born on February 15, 1930, in Steubenville, Ohio, to the late Benjamin and Marion Young Owens. He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, William and his sister-in-law Betty Owens; and his ex-wife, Mamie Powell Owens. Ben attended Steubenville High School; was a proud veteran of the U. S. Army and was formerly employed by the Old Bond Bakery, Pier Coal Company, Teremana Trucking Company, and by the Jefferson County School of Bright Promise. He also was a member of the Mingo Sportsmans Club, and GKL Sportsmans Club. He was an avid Big Red and Ohio State fan. He loved fishing, taking numerous trips to Canada and Florida to catch the "big ones". Ben is survived by a nephew, William (Marilyn) Owens; a niece, Pamela Owens Cucarese, all of Steubenville; three great nieces: Amy Deener, Jackie Detty, Lisa Cucarese. a great nephew, Brian Owens; and all of his special friends from the Indian Village Apartments: Theresa Fabian, Susie Burge, Charles Rogers (Pog / Rambo) and Bill Peckens. Friends will be received Friday September 25, 2009 from 11 a.m. until the time of services at 2:00 p.m. at the Blaschalk - Wilson Funeral Home, 115 Union Avenue, Mingo Junction, Ohio with Pastor Connie Quinn, officiating.
