Betty Lou (Goddard) Alpern, 86, of Englewood, OH formerly of Martins Ferry, OH died Saturday, July 25, 2015 at her residence. She was born Oct. 8, 1928 in Martins Ferry a daughter of the late John Q. and Irene (Paugh) Goddard. Betty was a long time member of Colerain Presbyterian Church, Colerain, OH. Betty had been in a nursing home since December 2014, and worked tirelessly in order to return to her home. She was fortunate to live her last several weeks in the comforts of her home In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Max Alpern. Surviving are her sister, Lois Campbell, nephews; Kip (Nancy) , Kevin (Linda) and Jon (Pam) and step-sons; Barry and Sandy Alpern. Visitation will be held at Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH, Friday, July 31, 2015 from 11:00 am until time of services at 1:00 pm with Pastor Joe Ellis officiating.
