Betty Jean (Wachter) Radner, 88, of St. Clairsville, OH, and formerly of Westfield Center, OH, died peacefully on Tue., Feb. 6, 2007 at Belmont Manor Nursing Home. She was born Nov. 3, 1918 in Martins Ferry, OH a daughter of the late Carl and Mabel (Greer) Wachter. Betty worked in the Cleveland School System, spent some time as a real estate agent, and worked for a doctor as a medical secretary. She was the founder of the Cloverleaf Garden Club of Westfield Center. Her hobbies included golf, bridge, gardening, needle work and entertaining. She also collected dolls. However, her first love was animals, especially dogs. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. James Parlante who died in 1963, her second husband of 36 years Walter Radner, who died in 2002, and a sister Maxine Furbee, who died in 1985. Surviving are her sister Elaine (James) Raies of St. Clairsville, four nephews: Craig Martin of Roanoke, VA, J. C. (Beth) Raies of Canton, OH, Matthew (Roseanne) Raies of Royal Palm Beach, FL, and Michael (Kelly) Raies of Portsmouth, OH, a niece Cindy Snodgrass of Columbus, OH, five great nieces, and two great nephews. Friends and relatives will be received Friday, Feb. 16, 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, 110 S. Marietta St., St. Clairsville, OH with Rev. Homer Harden officiating. A luncheon at the church will follow the services. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to Ohio Valley Hospice. Condolences to the family may be made by signing the guest book at the top of this page.
