Carl Timothy "Tim" Neal, 87 of Canton, OH, passed away on July 19, 2016 at home surrounded by his loved ones. Born on November 29, 1928 in Martins Ferry, OH to parents Carl and Beryl (McFarland) Neal, Tim lived most of his life in Martins Ferry where he and his wife Vi raised six children after their marriage on February 27, 1949 in Wheeling, WV. Tim graduated from Martins Ferry High School in 1946 then proudly served his country in the United States Army receiving the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal- Japan. He was a lifetime member of the former Martins Ferry VFW. His commitment to service continued as a volunteer fire fighter with the Liberty Engine Company for 12 years after which he became a life member of the Martins Ferry Fire Department Honorary Company. He also served as a Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church in Martins Ferry where he was a long time member. Tim worked as a steelworker for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corporation then became a union representative for the United Steelworkers of America. He retired form the Steelworkers in 1990 but continued his service to the Steelworkers as a member of the Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees (SOAR). Tim Enjoyed carpentry, researching and learning about family genealogy, and playing and watching sports especially Buckeye football. His greatest joy, through, was spending time with his wife & children grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and friends. He leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Violet "Vi" (Thrasher) Neal; his daughter Sheila (James) Fox of Martins Ferry, OH; Mark Neal of North Canton, OH; Kelley (Betsy) Neal of Columbus, OH; David (Heather) Neal of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; Seven Grandchildren and five great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by sons Timothy Donald (1998) and Ronald Paul (2009). Calling hours are scheduled from 2p-4p and 6p-9p on Friday, July 22, 2016 at Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut Street, Martins Ferry, OH 43935. Funeral services are at 1pm on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the funeral home, with the Reverend William Lawrence officiating. The Martins Ferry Fire Department will hold services Friday at 7:00 pm and the America Legion will conduct military honors Saturday at 12:45 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Liberty Engine Company, 500 Center Street, Martins Ferry, OH 43935 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
