Carl Norman
Chadwell

Saturday
Beallsville First Christian Church Fellowship Hall
1:00 - 4:00 pm (Eastern time)
Carl Norman Chadwell, 85, of Beallsville, Ohio passed away peacefully with his children by his side, Monday, July 13, 2026. Born July 17, 1940 in Cross Creek (Brooke County) West Virginia, Carl was one of nine children of the late Carl and Rachael (Henry) Chadwell. He was a retired employee of the former CONALCO plant near Hannibal, Ohio for over 40 years where he had worked as a furnace operator in the Cast House and also served as a Union Representative.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Carl will be remembered as a man of many talents and interests. He was an accomplished carpenter, mason, and gardener; he enjoyed pickling various vegetables grown in the gardens he planted. He spent many years meticulously constructing a log cabin using hand hewn logs salvaged from the 1800's. A lifelong WVU fan, Carl held season tickets for both the Mountaineer Basketball and Football teams for several seasons. He was an avid distance runner, one of the first in the area; he participated in and finished the Elby's 20K Distance Race more than a dozen times. However, of all of his many interests and pastimes, his greatest joy came simply from being with family, especially the annual Chadwell Family reunion.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 64 years, Roberta "Berta" (Riley) Chadwell on February 7, 2024; eight siblings, Eugene Chadwell, Dean Chadwell, Ruth Chadwell, May (Chadwell) Noble, Harley Chadwell, Mary Lou (Chadwell) Sutherland, Agnes (Chadwell) White, Beverly (Chadwell) Markowski Kiefer; and an infant granddaughter, Elaine Chadwell.
Left to cherish his memory are two children, Dave and his wife, Susan (Williams) Chadwell and Sonia and her husband, Greg Ferencik; two grandsons, Joshua Ferencik (Ellie Frye) and Lucas Ferencik; close family members, Betty (Chadwell) Bebout and Sophie Jean (Chadwell) Garrity; and his many nieces and nephews on the Chadwell and Riley sides.
Honoring Carl's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. On Saturday, July 18 from 1pm to 4pm family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life gathering at the Beallsville First Christian Church Fellowship Hall where memories may be shared and stories can be told.
A private graveside service will be held at a time of the family's choosing.
In keeping with his giving spirit and his love of cats, Carl's family requests that in lieu of flowers and keepsakes, memorial contributions be made to Crossed Paws Animal Shelter, 41383 Stonehouse Road, Woodsfield, Ohio 43793.
