DATO, Carl Lew, 85, of Bridgeport, Ohio, died Tuesday, December 16, 2008, in the Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling, W.Va.He was born in Bridgeport on August 26, 1923, a son of the late Samuel and Mary Rae Dato.Carl was a retired employee of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corp., Yorkville Plant; a member of Martins Ferry American Legion; Bridgeport Eagles; Yorkville V.F.W.; a U.S. Army veteran of WWII; and a Purple Heart recipient.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Charles Dato; and two sisters, Florence and Rose Dato.Carl is survived by his wife, Ethel Freese Dato; a son, Sam Dato and his wife, Susan, of North Fort Myers, Fla.; a daughter, Flo Dato of Akron, Ohio; a sister, Mary Zambito; two grandchildren, Brian and Erika Dato; three great-grandchildren, Trevor, Ava, and Kaylee Dato; and numerous nieces and nephews.Friends will be received Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Road, Brookside, Ohio, where services will be held Friday December 19, 2008 at 1 p.m. with Pastor John Oliver officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Belmont County Council of VFW.Interment will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Blaine, Ohio.
