Carl H. Shafer, 88, of Martins Ferry, OH died November 22, 2018 at East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry. He was born November 18, 1930, son of the late Carlye and Violet (Higgs) Shafer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his son, Carl Shafer, Jr., four sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Patricia "Patty" (LaRue) Shafer, his sons; Robert "Bobby" Shafer and Edward "Ted" Alltop, Jr. both of Martins Ferry, daughter-in-law, Janice (Dan) Marino of Weirton, WV, daughters; Debra (Dave) Troy of Martins Ferry, Karen (John) Josefczyk of St Clairsville, OH, Lois (Roger) Thompson of Cadiz, OH, and Brenda L. Miller of Wheeling, WV. Carl is also survived by 15 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.
Carl worked at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, Yorkville Plant for 15 years and Wheeling Alloy for 15 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Korean War. He has been a member of the First Christian Church in Martins Ferry for many years. He also loved to sing and play guitar at such places as Wheeling Jamboree, Ponderosa Park & Victoria Theatre, as well as Amedisys Hospice for 5 years and played for Country Kin Band and Glory Bound Gospel Band. He and Patty have had a music ministry for 32 years, singing in hospitals, nursing homes and senior centers and for the Veterans.
Friends will be received at a Memorial Service at the First Christian Church, South Zane Highway, Monday, November 26, 2018, at 1:00 PM, with Minister Rod Kasler officiating followed by a luncheon at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made in Carl's honor to the Martins Ferry Christian Church Family Building Fund, South Zane Highway, Martins Ferry, OH 43935.
