Carol D. (Dickson) Goclan, 69, of Treadway Rd., Martins Ferry, OH died, Friday, March 19, 2010 at the Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus, OH. She was born July 16, 1940 in Pittsburgh, PA a daughter of the late John M. and Margaret (Crawshaw) Dickson. She graduated from Westminster College and received a masters degree in education from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. She and her family operated Horizon Body Shop and Superior Automotive Services in Martins Ferry for over twenty-five years. She retired from Belmont Technical College as an Associate Professor of English. Carol loved the Church, and especially Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Bellaire where she was a member and served in many capacities for over 30 years. She was active in the formation and life of the East Central Ohio Area Ministry, a cluster of three congregations in Eastern Ohio. She was one of the original licensed lay preachers in ECO, served on ECO Council, and was a licensed worship leader and Eucharistic visitor. She also for the past three years had studied at the Diocesan School for Ministries and had completed her preparation for Ordination as a Deacon in the Episcopal Church. She served as a part-time chaplain at Cambridge Heights Retirement Community. Her witness of pastoral care and ministry will be missed. Most important, she was a loving mother and devoted wife. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Joseph Goclan, their son, Michael Goclan, his three children, David, Allyson, and Daniel of Martins Ferry, OH, their daughter, Dr. Sally (Robert) Chevalier, and their three children, Owen, Alexia, and Eli Jack of Sycamore, OH, her brother Charles (Pat) Dickson of Tucson, AZ, and a sister Helen (Tom) Locke of Wilmerding, PA. Friends will be received Monday, 7-9 pm and Tuesday 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH. Services will be held Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 10:00 am at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Bellaire, OH with the Rev. John P. Brandenburg officiating. Burial follows in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 553 43rd St., Bellaire, OH 43906 Condolences to the family may be made by signing the guest book at the top of this page.
