Obituary

Carole A. Givens, 70, of Poplar St. Brookside, died on Monday January 11, 2010 at U.P.M.C. Hospital, Shadyside, Pa. She was born February 24, 1939 in Martins Ferry, a daughter of the late John E. and Frieda V. (Woods) Armbruster. She was retired form Aetna Life & Casualty Ins. She started in 1958 after graduating High School and eventually transferring to the Pittsburgh office and retiring in 1994 as an Underwriting Manager. She continued to work in the Insurance Industry for 8 more years for A.M.S. Systems, based out of Texas. Carole also worked for Marthinsen and Salvitti Insurance Agency in Washington Pa. She belonged to the Community of Christ Church in Rock Hill, where she was baptized in 1972. Her activities in the church included being an organist, financial officer and Sunday School Teacher. Carol was also ordained as a priest in1996. In 1981 she was awarded the West Virginia Underwriter of the Year and became an official Ridge Runner in the state of West Virginia. She was active in the Belmont County Habitat for Humanity and owner of the former Rose-Buds and More flower shop in Lansing. Surviving are her husband Frank G. Givens, of 51 years, a son, David G. Givens of Pittsburgh, two brothers, John ""Jack"" Armbruster and his wife Edie of Martins Ferry, Larry Armbruster and his wife Diane of Clemmons, NC, a sister Elaine Hunter of Brookside, several special nieces and nephews, and her buddies Bailey and Maggie. Visitation will be on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Road, Brookside. Services will be held on Saturday January 16, 2010 at 11 am at the Community of Christ Church, St. Rt. 214, Rock Hill with Rev. Robert Anderson officiating. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Community of Christ Church of Rock Hill.
