Obituary

CECILIA CATHERINE COYNE, 85, of Bridgeport, died Friday, February 20, 2009 at Forest Hill Retirement Community in St. Clairsville. She was born November 11, 1923 in Bridgeport, the daughter of the late Patrick and Mary (Cloonan) Coyne. Cecilia was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Bridgeport where she was active with the Catholic Daughters of America and was a member of the West Virginia Auxiliary of the Congregation of St. Joseph. She was a 1945 graduate of Wheeling Hospital School of Nursing; a 1954 graduate of Steubenville College where she attained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education Degree. She then became a registered nurse with Wheeling Hospital and was Past President of the West Virginia Nurses Association. She was Head Nurse of the Intensive Care Unit and also was instrumental in establishing the first Coronary Care Unit in Wheeling and the State of West Virginia. She then became the Director of Nursing In-Service Education until her retirement in 1989. Following her retirement she was a volunteer at Wheeling Hospital for 15 years and was active with the Wheeling Hospital Nurses Alumni Association. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Terrence Coyne and two sisters Mae O'Neil and Ann, (Sister Mary Terence). Cecilia is survived by a niece Ann Reck (Jeff) of Pittsburgh; a nephew Joseph O'Neil (Marlene) of Bridgeport; two great nieces Heather and Erika; as well as many cousins and faithful friends. Visitation will be Monday 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Rd., Brookside, where Vigil services will be held at 7:30 pm. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 am at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Bridgeport with Cecilia's cousin Monsignor George Coyne as the celebrant and Monsignor Thomas Petronek concelebrant. Interment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery in Blaine. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 230 Main St., Bridgeport, Ohio 43912.
