Charles W. Sommers, 83 of Pine Ave., St. Clairsville, OH, formerly of Colerain, OH died Friday, Aug. 14, 2009 at Park Health Center, St. Clairsville. He was born Jan. 7, 1926 in Colerain, a son of the late Ludlow W. and Edna (Krieger) Sommers. He was retired from the Martins Ferry School District and the former Picoma Industries, Martins Ferry. Charles was a member of the Colerain Presbyterian Church, Colerain, OH where he served as a Deacon, Elder and Trustee of the church, the V.F.W. Post # 8848, Colerain, and a former member of the Colerain Fire Department. He was also a graduate of the Martins Ferry High School class of 1943 and, a veteran of the U. S. Navy, WWII. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard and Paul Sommers, and a sister, Mildred Smith. Surviving are his wife of sixty-one years, Helen (Forni) Sommers, and a son Ronald (Kay) Sommers of Annandale, VA. Friends will be received Tuesday, 4-8 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH. Friends will then be received Wednesday, August 19, 2009 from 10:00am till time of services at 11:00am at the Colerain Presbyterian Church, Colerain, OH where Rev. John Brown will officiate.
