David Jude Coyne, 79, a life-long resident of Bridgeport, Ohio, passed away on Monday October 24, 2022, surrounded by his family at Liza's Place in Wheeling, W.Va.
David was born to the late Vince and Mary Lillian (Murphy) Coyne, on December 21, 1942.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his loving wife, Cynthia Ann (Letzelter) Coyne.
David is survived by his two brothers, Stephen (Margaret) of Bridgeport, Ohio, and Michael (Edna) Coyne of Dumfries Va.; his three children, Kelly (Ben) Ulevich of Southport, N.C., David Jay Coyne of Columbus, Ohio, and Meredith (Daniel) Flatley of Bethesda, Md.; five grandchildren, Jacob, Beth and Meghan Ulevich, and Brigid and James Flatley.
He was a 1960 graduate of the Wheeling Central Catholic High School and served on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps, deploying to Iwakuni, Japan. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, he graduated from West Liberty State College and became a Certified Public Accountant. He worked for the RM Wilson Company, eventually becoming co-owner and president of the company. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bridgeport and was an active participant in the Knights of Columbus, the Marine Corps League, the Elks Club and many other community organizations. He also served for several years on the Bridgeport City Council.
An avid fisherman, David was at home on the water. He was a member of the Wheeling Yacht Club and enjoyed vacationing every year with his family at Atlantic Beach, N.C. More than anything, he looked forward to his annual fishing trips to Canada with close family and friends. He helped organize the Great Coyne Family Reunion for several years and served as class treasurer for the CCHS class of 1960.
He was a voracious reader and could be found many evenings with a book in his lap or watching his favorite programs on the television. He loved working outdoors and was often on his tractor accompanied by one of his many beloved black labs. In his retirement years, he and Cindy loved heading south for warmer weather during the winter months. He was fond of telling stories about his youthful adventures with friends and would recall events with great humor and detail.
