David "Dave" Johnston, 76, of Bethesda, OH, died Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Wheeling Hospital. He was born June 17, 1941, in Wheeling, WV, a son of the late Francis and Caroline (Stein) Johnston. He was a 1959 graduate of Triadelphia High School. He was retired from the Northern Panhandle Head Start Program where he served as a bus driver and teacher's aid. He loved the children, and the children and parents fondly called him Mr. Dave. Dave was a former Ohio County Deputy Sheriff. He was also the former chief of security at OVMC and worked in patient care. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wheeling and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Reed Bumgardner Johnston; children, Deborah Wyss of Oak Harbor, OH, Matthew Johnston of Martinsburg, WV; step-son, Shannon McMillan of Knox, IN; step-daughter Tina (Greg) Bamberger of Wheeling; brother, Ronald C. Johnston of Wheeling; special niece Karen (James) Leite of Delaware, OH; and special friend Brad Hufeld of Wheeling, WV. Friends will be received Saturday, January 13 from 1pm until time of service at 4pm at the First Baptist Church, 1470 National Rd. Wheeling, WV 26003 with Pastor Darrin Wright officiating.
