David W. Mitchell, 87, of St. Clairsville, OH, formerly of Martins Ferry, OH died Thursday, August 20, 2009 at home. He was born Oct. 1, 1921 in Martins Ferry a son of the late Carl W. and Hannah (Jones) Mitchell. He was a retired field engineer for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel. David was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, Ohio City Lodge #486 F. & A.M., Chapter #173 R.A.M., Council #87 R. & S. M., and Hope Commandary #26. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers Carl and William Mitchell and an infant brother. Surviving are his wife Lucille Y. (Young) Mitchell, three daughters Darlene (Charles) Ice of Wheeling, WV, Lynn Kinz and Cheryl Demetrakis both of St. Clairsville, OH and a son David Mitchell, II of Independence, MO, a sister-in-law Lois Mitchell of Martins Ferry, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Friends will be received Sunday 12 - 4 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH. Services will be held Monday at the Grace Presbyterian Church, Martins Ferry at 11:00 am with Rev. William O. Webster officiating. Entombment follows at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH. Elders of the church will hold bereavement services Sunday at 2:00 pm followed by Masonic Ritualistic Services at 3:00 pm in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dustin O.
