Obituary

DAVID CLYDE WAGNER, SR. The class of '57's, David Clyde Wagner, Sr., aka, "The Barnesville Flash", who was seen on the football field wearing jersey #10 at the middle linebacker position, throwing opponents for losses and picking off the occasional pass over the middle or on the Shamrock wresting mats, where he earned honors as a four time state placer, never placing less than fourth, died in his sleep on August 10, 2015, after enjoying a nice evening with family. Mr. Wagner and his son, David Wagner, Jr., an outstanding wrestler in his own right, are honored and listed in the book by the Ohio State High School Athletic Association, "The Best of the Best Father/Son Wrestling." After high school graduation, he wrestled for a year at Ohio State University and left to join the United States Army, where he became a member of the nation's elite, 82nd Airborne Infantry Division. It was there, that he met his bride of 55 years, Norma Jean Godsey Wagner. After serving proudly the 82nd, he left the Army and took a job in sales in the hardware industry. He truly "worked his way up the cooperate ladder" and earned a spot as a top executive with the Rival Manufacturing company. He is the man that "put a Crock-Pot in every household." Mr. Wagner purchased the family farm, where he grew up with his son. Together, they grew their holdings and built a beautiful farm in Flushing Township above Piedmont Lake. Mr. Wagner raised fine Angus cattle and the tradition continues at Still Water Creek Farms, where his son will continue to run the family farm. He is preceded in death by his father, Clyde Wagner, who gave his life, April 19, 1945, weeks before Victory in Europe Day; mother, Elizabeth Cash; sisters, Ina Cash and Myra Cash; and his dear brother, Robert Wagner. He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Godsey Wagner and his five children; Dr. Marialice (Mike) Gulledge (Nathan, Zachary, and Madeline), Debra Lee Wagner (Chris Bean) and (Adam and Benjamin), David Clyde (Dawn) Wagner, Jr. (Kaleigh and Emily), Pamela Jean Wagner (Matthew), and Elizabeth Kay Calisi (A.J. and Presley Jean). He was blessed to have one great-grandchild, Jamison. David Clyde Wagner, Sr. was a true patriot and a man deeply committed to his family. He was generous to a fault and truly went out of his way to help his fellow man. He walked with God and joins his beloved family and friends, with our Savior. He was a Father, Farmer, and Patriot. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
