Obituary

Donald Herr Ressler, 96, passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 at Emerald Pointe Nursing and Rehab Center, Barnesville, where he had resided for the past 10 months. He was born in Martins Ferry on May 23, 1919, a son of the late Landis W. (Walter) and Alma Thompson Ressler. Don was a 1937 graduate of Martins Ferry High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having entered military service on March 11, 1941. He was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas where he served as an instructor in the mechanized calvary unit, eventually reaching the rank of Tech Sergeant and becoming head instructor. Don would have remained stateside during the war, but volunteered to go overseas in place of a buddy. He served in Italy during the war. Don was a Harley-Davidson enthusiast and rode motorcycles before, during and after the war. In the late 1930s, he and a group of friends formed the Saf T Riders in Martins Ferry. When he married, he moved to western Belmont County and lived in Hendrysburg for 40 years. He moved to Morristown in 2005 to be nearer his daughter. Don was a professional truck driver for 50 years, hauling steel for Eclipse Motor Lines and then coal for Kovac Trucking (later Jonida Trucking) of Flushing. He retired in 1987. He was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time outdoors as much as he could. He was a Methodist by faith. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Ressler of Wheeling, WV and a sister, Lois W. Skinner of Kalispell, MT. He is survived by two sons, Rand (Susanna) Ressler of Bozeman, MT and Dan (Linda) Ressler of Barnesville; two daughters, Mona Anderson of Laconia, NH and Pamela (Tom) McCort of Morristown; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one niece, Pennie Dulaney and her family of Wheeling, WV. Friends will be received on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Kelly Kemp Braido Patron Funeral Homes & Crematory, 702 E. Main Street, Barnesville, where services will be conducted on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Robert Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Hendrysburg. Military graveside services will be conducted by Belmont County Veterans Association. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Barnesville Hutton Memorial Library or the animal rescue organization of the donor's choice. Services will be conducted on Tuesday at 11 a.m., at Kelly Kemp Braido Patron Funeral Homes & Crematory, 702 E. Main Street, Barnesville, with Pastor Robert Merritt officiating.

Interment

Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Hendrysburg.
