Donald R. Kinnan, Jr., 76, of Martins Ferry, OH, died Monday, Oct. 31, 2011 at Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, WV. He was born Jul. 14, 1935 in Martins Ferry a son of the late Donald R. and Katherine (McFarland) Kinnan. Don was a former Police Officer for the City of Martins Ferry and retired as a Computer Environmental Operator for Bayer Corp. He was a lifelong member of the Martins Ferry Fire Dept. serving both the Ladder Co. and the Alert Engine Co. Don had a passion for his camp and boat at Piedmont Lake where he belonged to the Essex Cove Boat Club. He was a member of the American Legion Post #38 and a was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Korean War. One of Don's greatest loves was that of "Bleeding Purple" for the Purple Rider Football team. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Dale A. Kinnan and a sister Alice Balabin. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Shirley A. (Novak) Kinnan, his son Don (Janet) Kinnan of Colerain, OH, three daughters Kathy Marino of Martins Ferry, Karen (Robert) Palmer of Bethlehem, WV, and Kristine Kinnan of Lancaster, OH, a brother David W. (Ruth) Kinnan of Springfield, OH, a sister Judith Martinez of Carpinteria, CA, four grandchildren Ashley and Lance Marino and Bobby and Claudia Palmer, two great grandchildren, and his beloved cat Cleo. Friends will be received Wednesday 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH where services will be held Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011at 1:00 pm with Rev. Tom Marut officiating. Burial follows in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry. Condolences to the family may be made by signing the guest book at the top of this page.
