Obituary

Donald Dale Sadowski passed away on Father's Day, June 19, 2022. He was born in Tiltonsville, Ohio on February 24, 1931. He was the second of four children in the Sadowski family. Donald was drafted into the Army in 1951. Prior to his deployment to Korea, he married his love Joycelyn Jean Somerville on May 24, 1952. He was honorably discharged in August of 1953. Donald and Joy built a brick home overlooking West Bellaire. It was there that they raised their two sons and too many pairs of Scottish Terriers to count. Over the many decades he kept building and adding to the property. He hauled rock from an area creek in the trunk of a 1955 Chevy and assembled multiple walls around the house, capping them with concrete from the forms he built. He designed and constructed a large block shed with a gambrel roof. He made solid cherry cabinet doors for the kitchen cabinets, multiple furniture pieces, as well as a solid walnut desk and bookcase in the living room. Donald was a master tinkerer and could build or fix almost anything. Woodworking and masonry work were but two of his skills. He repaired and restored cars, which encompassed everything from engine rebuilds to body work and painting. He had a lifelong interest in building radio-controlled airplanes, collecting Colt black powder pistols, and traditional archery. Donald spent countless hours perusing antique shops and flea markets and always managed to find something to buy, whether he needed it or not. He was always working on something and had his own special sense of time, much to the chagrin of those around him. Donald retired after a long career of forty-two years at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel in Yorkville, as an accomplished electronics and instrumentation man. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Wilma (Fluxe) Sadowski, a sister Dolores Dinger, and his wife Joy, who passed in May 2022 just a few weeks shy of their 70th wedding anniversary. It brings comfort to the family for Don and Joy to be together again as their love grew stronger every year and life for either of them would not be the same without the other. Surviving are his sons Michael (Francine) of Florence, Montana and Jon of Bellaire as well as three grandchildren: Ryan Sadowski, Aaron (Paige) Sadowski and Alyssa (Dan) Daley, three great grandchildren Clara, Elliette and Adeline Daley. He is also survived by two siblings, Denise (William) Amici and Darrell (Lynn) Sadowski. There will be a visitation at Wilson Funeral Home in Brookside on Thursday July 28, from 6-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday July 29 at noon in St. John's Catholic Church, Bellaire followed by full military honors provided by Belmont County Veteran's Association at Holly Memorial.
