Obituary

Doris Evelyn Ahrendts, 88, died Sunday, December 11, 2011, with her daughter Deb and son-in-law Joe by her side. She was born on January 10, 1923 in Mingo Junction ( Dean Dale ), Ohio to James and Maude ( Fishback ) Wedlake. Doris graduated from Mingo Jct., High School and attended Harmony Methodist Church. During WWII Doris worked at a local gas station (changing tires and pumping gas.) It was here that she met the love of her life and husband of 46 years, Kenneth H. Ahrendts. Ken pulled up to the pump for gas and it was love at first sight. They were married on Doris's 21st birthday. Doris and Ken had 3 children and Doris worked part-time at G.C . Murphy in Toronto, Ohio. They resided in Toronto for several years. After moving back to Mingo Jct., to be near Kenneth's work at the Ohio Nut and Washer Company, Doris managed the soda fountain at People's drugstore in Steubenville, Ohio until the business closed. Doris then became a nurse's aide at Ohio Valley Hospital in Steubenville, Ohio and finally found her calling. She remained there until her retirement. Doris was a compassionate care giver and the comfort of her patients was always top priority. Doris will be remembered for her kindness and her commitment to quality care. After her retirement, Doris committed her life to caring for her ill husband for many years, until his death on January 11, 2000. Doris is survived by her daughter, Debra Costantini (Joseph J.), daughter Pennie, granddaughter, Kimberly Rihaly, grandson Kenneth Murphy, grandson Kenneth Marycz, great granddaughter, Silver Corbin and great grandson, Christopher Corbin.In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband ,Kenneth H. Ahrendts, daughter Lettia Lynn Cameron, granddaughter, Glenda Lynn Murphy, great granddaughter, Christina Michelle Corbin, sister Cleo Shifflett, brother Joseph Wedlake, and 2 infant sisters. The family is being assisted by Blaschalk - Wilson Funeral Home, 115 Union Avenue, Mingo Junction, Ohio. Services for Doris will be at the convenience of the family.
