Obituary

DORIS MARIE (MILLER) NORRIS

Doris Marie (Miller) Norris, age 99, passed away June 1, 2019 in Barnesville, Ohio.  She was born in Wheeling, West Virginia to the late Henry C. and Sara L. Miller and had lived in St. Clairsville, Flushing, New Athens, and Barnesville in her lifetime.  She was married to the late Isaac Harvey Norris and they shared nearly 60 years together.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Miller; sister, Grace Klayko; and granddaughter, Tammy Juriga.

Doris was first and foremost, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker.  She was a great cook and known for her pies, cakes, cookies, potato salad, fried chicken, and turkey dressing – all lovingly prepared.  She made dishes for countless church and funeral dinners.  She was also an artist on a sewing machine, making dolls and doll clothes, pillows, quilts, and curtains; plus stuffed animals for the little ones.  She put a little of herself in each creation.

A long-standing member of Flushing Christian Church, she served her Lord in many ways; by the life she lived and the example she was to so many.  She taught Sunday school and as deaconess, she prepared communion and performed other duties she was given or graciously accepted.  She pitched in and cleaned the church when necessary and later served as custodian.

She lived the Golden Rule, believed that two wrongs don't make a right and it's better to give than to receive.  She taught her children to respect all people and that revenge is the Lord's right, not our own.  She cared for her parents and mother-in-law in her home as they aged, through difficult times and even though money was tight.  Her life was an excellent example of honesty, integrity, and humility, as witnessed daily, by her children and grandchildren.

Left to treasure her memory are; daughter, Sally (Chuck) Juriga of Fairpoint; sons, Randy (Judy) Norris of Bucyrus; David (Kathy) Norris of Barnesville, and Brian Norris of Flushing; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and five foster children, that she and Harvey lovingly cared for in their home.
