Dorothy Joyce Burkhead, 87, of Tiltonsville, OH, passed Saturday October 22, 2016 at her home. She was born July 13, 1929, a daughter of the late George and Virginia Monahan Thomas. Joyce was the secretary to several administrators of Martins Ferry Hospital for many years. She was a Member of the Spruce Twig of the Ladies Auxiliary of Martins Ferry and EORH; a member of Tiltonsville United Methodist Church, Rayland UMC Women's Society, and a member of her monthly Card Club for over 50 years. She was very proud of her Irish heritage, loved animals, especially dogs. She enjoyed traveling, shopping and dining out. She was Aunt Joyce or "AJ" to her nieces and nephews as well as all of their friends. Her home was a gathering place where love and laughter flowed freely. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Charles Burkhead and a brother John O. Thomas Sr. Joyce is survived by nieces and nephews: Tracy (Charlie) Scholz of Rayland, John (Sue) Thomas of San Diego, CA, Cindy (Patrick) Stevens of North Lake, TX, Roxanne Montgomery, Leslie Barath, Chuck (Becky) Barath all of Tiltonsville, sisters in law: Lucy Barath and Mary Thomas; grandnieces and grandnephews: Jason, Jacob, Colin Thomas; Mathew, Kylie Scholz; Erica, Joshua Barath; Andrew Stevens, John Oliver Thomas III. Friends will be received Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home, 102 Main Street, Tiltonsville, OH, where services will be held Wednesday October 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dan Holt officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tiltonsville United Methodist Church or Donor's favorite charity.
