Dorothy E. (Shurtz) Shrodes, 90, of Martins Ferry, OH, died Sun., Dec. 3, 2006 at East Ohio Regional Hospital Long Term Care, Martins Ferry, OH. She was born Jan. 17, 1916 in Martins Ferry a daughter of the late Charles A. and Idella (Harper) Shurtz. Dorothy started working at the Merchant Cooperative Credit Bureau, Wheeling, WV, then during WW II she was employed in the Washington Office of the Surgeon General at the Pentagon Building until 1956. She then retired from the United Mine Workers Medical Office in Bellaire, OH. Dorothy was a member of the Edgwood Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wheeling, WV and the former Bellaire Pilot Club. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Howard F. Shrodes, four brothers Charles, Harold, William G. and W. Ned Shurtz, a sister Wilma Kehrer, two nephews John Kehrer, Jr. and Kenneth Shurtz, a niece Donna Stockstill. Surviving are two sisters Lois E. (Arthur) Schunn of Martins Ferry, and Marjorie (Michael Edwin) Stockstill of Ridgewood, NJ, seven nephews Tom (Carolyn) Shurtz of Lancaster, OH, Terry (Donna) Shurtz of Carrollton, OH, Ronald (Gerrie) Shurtz, of Adamsburg, PA, Patrick (Valorie)Stockstill of Sylmar, CA, Michael Alan (Helen) Stockstill, Haskell, NJ, Lloyd "Buddy" (Joyce) Shrodes of Phoenix, AZ, and Bruce (Barbara) Shrodes of Martins Ferry, six nieces Linda (George) Harden of Vienna, OH, Alana (Kenneth) Evans of Carrollton, OH, Arleen (The Rev. Robert) Hawk of Greenburg, PA, Charmyn Barber Doty of Martins Ferry, Sandra (Ron) Kehrer Barnes of Franktown, CO, and Anita L. Schunn of Martins Ferry her best friend and travel companion and a sister-in-law Betty Shurtz of Carrollton, OH. Dorothy and Howard spent their married life in Shadyside, OH. Friends will be received Tues., 6-8 PM and Weds., 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH where services will be held Thurs., Dec. 7, 2006 at 11:00 AM with The Rev. Elizabeth Welsch officiating. Burial follows in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry. Memorial contributions may be made to the Edgwood Evangelical Church, 1154 National Rd., Wheeling, WV or the American Cancer Society, 3612 Maple Ave., Zanesville, OH 43702.
