Dorothy L. (Smith) Johnson of Crawford St., Martins Ferry, OH died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009 at Liza's Place, Wheeling, WV. She was born January 17, 1928 in Martins Ferry a daughter of the late Hartsel Smith and Martha (Andears) Smith Briggs Minder. Dorothy was a member of the First Christian Church, former Eagles Aerie #456 Auxiliary, Redmen Club, and American Legion Women's Bowling League all of Martins Ferry. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James C. Johnson, three brothers George and Walter Smith and Eugene Minder, and two sisters Virginia Wheeler and Ruth Jones. Surviving are three sons James C. (Laurie) Johnson, Jr. of St. Clairsville, OH, Gary Johnson of Martins Ferry, and Keith A. (Anna Lissa) Johnson of Tucson, AZ, a daughter Sharon (Jim) Sweeny of Wintersville, OH, a brother Clarence (Judy) Briggs and a sister Lois Jean Smith both of St. Clairsville, OH, nine grandchildren Jamie L. Galavis, James C. Johnson, III, Justin L. Johnson, Gregory T. Caniff, Jr., Chad M. Caniff, Jesse J. Johnson, Jordan N. Johnson, Trevor J. Johnson and Justin Heckathorn, and six great grandchildren Jacob, Dylan, and Peyton Johnson, Mason Caniff, Demitris Ellsworth, and Collin Briggs. Friends will be received Wednesday 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 9 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH where services will be held, Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009 at 2:00 pm with Minister Rod Kasler officiating. Burial follows in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry. Memorial contribution to Liza's Place Hospice Care Facility, 308 Mt. St. Joseph Rd., Wheeling, WV 26003.
