Duane Powell, 78, of Colerain, OH, died Monday, May 6, 2013 at Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, WV. He was born Oct. 1, 1934 in Dilles Bottom, OH a son of the late Hobert T. and Evelyn (Hinds) Powell. Duane formerly worked for the Martins Ferry Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel and retired as a bus driver for the Martins Ferry School System. He also is a retired OVAC referee for basketball and football. He was a member of the Purple Riders Booster Club, American Legion Post #38 and Foresters of Lansing. Duane was a veteran of the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Eunice Carman. Surviving are his wife Dorothy A. (Vargo) Powell, son Thomas (Leslie) Powell of Harrisville, OH, daughters; Peri Powell of Colerain and Beth Powell of Wheeling, and three grandchildren; Cory and Zac Beaver and Logan Powell. Friends will be received at the Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH, Wednesday, 2-4 & 6-8 pm where services will be held Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 1:00 pm with Rev. William O. Webster and Martin Imbroscio officiating. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to Purple Rider Booster Club or Big Reds Touchdown Club.
