Durward Kenneth Blaney, 91, formerly of Bethesda, Ohio, died April 26, 2016 at his home in Vincent, Ohio, in the company of his family. He was born December 1, 1924 in Dabney, Arkansas, to the late Genie Horn Blaney and Bob Link Blaney, the fourth of their six sons.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, and brother, Mr. Blaney was a member of the Veto Church of Christ in Veto, Ohio.
Mr. Blaney was honorably discharged February 2, 1946, after proudly serving his county in the United States Army. He served in the South Pacific Theater, as a combat engineer and was instrumental in operating the base saw mill in the Philippine Islands.
He married Gwendolyn Moore on April 6, 1946 and the couple settled in Bethesda, Ohio. He began his trucking business and from there, continued to expand his entrepreneurial ventures. In the late 1950's, Mr. Blaney started a sole proprietorship lumber business, which later expanded to family members and employed approximately 50 people. In July of 1978, Mr. Blaney and his family relocated the business to Barlow, Ohio and incorporated the business into Blaney Hardwoods of Ohio. While it appeared to his associates that the business was his main focus in life, his family and friends knew his true passion was his wife and family. After 70 years of marriage, Gwen was still the true love of his life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his five brothers and one grandson.
Mr. Blaney is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Blaney; his four children, Becky Blaney Ault, Randy J. (Connie) Blaney, Larry E. Blaney, Mary Blaney (Gary) Manning; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
