Ray was a China-Burma-India veteran of World War II, where he was an MP in the 14th Air Force in Chengdu, China, with the Flying Tigers. He flew 'Over the Hump' of the Himalayas. After the war he returned to Colerain and worked for Gulf Oil Company, and then as a Chevrolet salesman for over fifty years at Westlake and Staffalino Chevrolet dealerships. Ray worked actively to restore the Concord Quaker Meeting House in Colerain, the first Quaker Meeting House in Belmont County, now on the State Historical Register.
