Edith Merrill (Marshall) Demarest, 82, of St. Clairsville, concluded a nearly two-decade battle with Alzheimer's Disease on Tuesday, July 29 at Park Health Center, and now rests, awaiting the Resurrection. She was born September 4, 1925 in Auburn, Maine, the daughter of Charles S. and Mary (Hinckley) Marshall. She married the Rev. William C. Demarest on October 2, 1960, and they served congregations in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. They retired in 1987 from the Kirkwood Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport, where she was still a member at the time of her death. Although she worked during her lifetime as a secretary, crossing guard, and buyer for a department store, she considered being a pastor's wife to be her greatest calling.She was also an accomplished writer, organist, pianist, and vocalist, and loved gardening, knitting, crocheting, volunteering at East Ohio Regional Hospital, and spending summers at her cottage in Mechanic Falls, Maine. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. She is survived by two sons and their families: David and Diane, Christina, and Robbie Demarest of Brookside and Jonathan and Donna, Phillip, and Ellen Demarest of Granville, Ohio; and by two brothers and their wives: Charles and June Marshall of Auburn, Maine, and Robert and Harriett Marshall of Dover, New Hampshire. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 at Wilson Funeral Home in Brookside and on Friday morning at Kirkwood Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport from 10:00 until services begin at 11:00. The Rev. Edward Mooney will officiate. Interment will follow at Linwood Cemetery in Blaine. Box 145, Mechanic Falls, ME 04256.
