Edward W. Bennett, Sr., 83, of Martins Ferry, OH, formerly of Barton, OH died Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at the home of his daughter surrounded by his loving family. He was born Aug. 25, 1928 in Wheeling, WV a son of the late Chester and Anna Marie (McDonald) Bennett. He was retired after 42 years from the Martins Ferry Plant of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel. Edward was a member of the Barton United Methodist Church, Barton, and a veteran of the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Jean (Scarfpin) Bennett and his sisters; Ethel Jaworski, Emma Marvintino, Ina Walker, Elinor Hathaway, and Ella McIntosh. Surviving are a son Edward W. (Alretta) Bennett, Jr. of Lansing, OH, and his daughters; Gail (Bob) Thompson of Yorkville, OH, Ellen Baker of Martins Ferry, Carolyn (Larry) Myers of Sunset Heights, Luann (Randy) Habig of Mt. Pleasant, OH, and Danielle (Steve) Redinger of Martins Ferry, fourteen grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren. Friends will be received Thursday, 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH where services will be held Friday, May 11, 2012 at 11:00 am with Rev. Henry Mooney officiating. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH. Condolences to the family may be made by signing the guest book at the top of this page.
