Edward D. "Pepper" Bruney,83, of Martins Ferry, OH died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015 at East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry. He was born Oct. 6, 1931 in Martins Ferry, a son of the late Edward F. "Pie' Bruney and Margaret H. (Applegarth) Bruney. He was a retired Teacher and Principal of North School for Martins Ferry City School System. Pepper was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church of Martins Ferry and a veteran of the U. S. Army, Korean War. He was also a member of the Cottage Owner's Association at Epworth Park, Bethesda, OH. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters Gretchen A. Bruney and Peggy L. Holland. Surviving are his wife, Coral A. (Draves) Bruney; his daughter, Paula Bruney of Martins Ferry; his sister, Patti L. King of Martins Ferry; a niece, Gretchen Snodgrass of St. Clairsville, OH; and a nephew Mark (Muffett) King of Orlando, FL. Friends will be received at the Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH, Friday 7-9 pm and Saturday, January 24, 2015, from 10 am until time of services at 11:00 am with Rev. William O. Webster officiating. Burial follows in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry. Elders of the church will hold services Friday at 7:30 pm in the funeral home. Military honors will be presented by the VFW Belmont County Honor Guard, Saturday at 10:45 am prior to services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Presbyterian Church, 7 N. Fourth St., Martins Ferry, OH 43935.
