Edward R. Polli of 1143 Howard St. Bridgeport Ohio died on January 28, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 10, 1928 the son of the late Rudolph and Mary (Zani) Polli. Ed was preceded in death by three sisters Agnes Sanna of Fontana CA and Mary Guglielmotti of Detroit MI and Henrietta Polli of Bridgeport and two brothers, Joseph Polli and John Polli both of Bridgeport. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Rose Mary DeLoretta Polli, a daughter, Susan Cunningham (Gary) of St. Clarisville, a son, Edward II of Bridgeport, a granddaughter, Jenna Rose Cunningham and many nieces and nephews and a special pet named Maggie. Ed was a graduate of Wheeling Central Catholic High School where he was the class Salutorian. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and graduated from Franciscan University of Steubenville. Ed was retired from Blaw Knox Warwood Works where he worked for 33 years. Following that, he was retired from the Martins Ferry Times Leader where he worked for 28 years. Ed greatly enjoyed working and loved his co-workers and all of the special people he met over the years from his career in journalism. All of you touched his life in a special way. Ed was very active in his community and church. He was a member and loved St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Bridgeport where he served as Liturgy Coordinator, Lector and various other positions. While with the Times Leader, he received some very special honors, among those were the Liberty Bell Award - presented by the Belmont County Bar Association for his work with the law profession. He also was honored to serve on the Diocesan School Board, the Boards of St. Joseph Grade School and St. John Central High School, and the Belmont County Board of Developmental Disabilities where he was Board Chairman. He was the public information officer for Belmont Count EMA and was also recognized for his community service by the Belmont-Monroe FOP, Belmont County Fair Housing Commission, the St. Clairsville Senior Center, and the St. Clairsville Post of the American Legion. However, the honor that he cherished the most was being called Husband, Dad, Pappy, Uncle, and Friend. Ed was an avid sports fan and loved Notre Dame Football and the New York Yankees. He enjoyed people and never met a stranger. A family loved, a community and church well served, and a life well lived. We were blessed that he was a part of our lives.
