February 11, 1917 – January 14, 2010
Edward Sambuco, 92, of Colerain, OH, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010 at East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry, OH. He was born Feb. 11, 1917 in Fairpoint, OH a son of the late Dominic and Minnie (Bumgardner) Sambuco. He was retired from the Y & O Coal Company after fifty years of service. Edward was a member of the Colerain Presbyterian Church, Colerain, OH where he was a former deacon. He was also a member of the Ruritan Club, Farm Bureau, and the former Italian Club of Martins Ferry. He also helped organize the Tri-County Water Board, helped start Pony League Baseball in Martins Ferry, and was a Scout Master for the Florence, Ohio Boy Scouts. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers Eugene, Alfred and William Sambuco, two sisters Violet Vojacek, and Martha Mack, and a grandson David H. Sambuco. Surviving are his wife Julia (Szabo) Sambuco, two sons Edward (Sandra) Sambuco, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, OH, and Errol C. (Mary Edith) Sambuco of Martins Ferry, a daughter Stephanie (Geno) Buonamici of Hubbard, OH, eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, and three great -great grandchildren. Friends will be received Monday 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH where services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010 at 11:00 am with Rev. John A. Brown officiating. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the David H. Sambuco Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Peoples National Bank of Mt. Pleasant, 298 Union St., Mt. Pleasant, OH 43939. Condolences to the family may be made by signing the guest book at the top of this page.
