Edward F. Schmidt Edward F. Schmidt, 84, of Buckeye Run Rd., Martins Ferry, OH died Sun., May 4, 2003 at East Ohio Regional Hospital. He was born Jan. 7, 1919 in Salem, WV a son of the late Henry and Catherine Schmidt. He was retired from the Yorkville Plant of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, a member of the V.F.W. Post # 4811 of Yorkville, and a veteran of U.S. Navy. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Geraldine M. Dorsch Schmidt, a son Edward K. "Butch" Schmidt, a great grandson Paul D. Rice, III, a brother Herman Schmidt, and two sisters Clara Sloan and Emma Mathey. Surviving are his wife Mildred Sockman Hails Schmidt, a son George Hails of Bridgeport, four daughters Ruth Henning of Bridgeport, Diana (Jack) Parkhurst of GA, and Mary Ann (Paul) Rice and Gerrie Ledger all of Martins Ferry, thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Friends will be received Tues. 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH where services will be held Wed., May 7, 2003 at 1:00 PM with Minister Rod Kasler officiating. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH with full military graveside honors by the Belmont County Council of the V.F.W.
