Edwin Eugene ("Gene") Burkhart Edwin Eugene Burkhart ("Gene"), 84, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2016, at Wheeling Hospital surrounded by his family. He was reunited with his beloved wife, Marilyn, in heaven in time for their 60th wedding anniversary, February 11th. He was born August 13, 1931 in Barnesville, Ohio, son of the late Vernon W. and Leota L. (Conner) Burkhart. Together with his wife, he owned and operated Burkhart Nursery and Floral in Barnesville for over 25 years, which is now operated by his son Mike. The Burkharts were the loving parents of twelve children. Mr. Burkhart recently worked at Lowe's in St. Clairsville and was a member of Assumption Church in Barnesville and formerly St. Michael's parish in Wheeling. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by son, Stephen and brother, Vernon W. Jr. Mr. Burkhart will be sadly missed by his children, Mark (Jane Glauser) of Wheeling, WV, Vince (Luz) of Cupertino, CA, Greg (Kathy), Mike (Lori), Eric (Tammy), Veronica and David all of Barnesville, OH, Angela (Tom) Siegwald of Louisville, KY, Karl of Palmdale, CA, Theresa (Tom) Royston of Chicago, IL, and Sharon (Tim) Shriver of Cary, NC; 17 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and brother Delmas of Corbin, KY. Friends will be received Sunday, February 14th from 1 to 5 p.m., Kelly Kemp Braido Patron Funeral Homes & Crematory, 702 East Main St., Barnesville, OH. A Vigil Service will be conducted at 4:45 p.m. with Father Dave Cornett presiding, followed by a Knights of Columbus Service and Rosary devotions. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 15th at 10 a.m. at Assumption Church Barnesville, OH with Father David Cornett presiding.
