Elvira F. ""Elvy"" (DiOrio) Garnek, 91, of Wintersville, formerly of Mingo Junction, went home to the Lord on Saturday October 3, 2009. She was born September 1, 1918 in Mingo Junction, the daughter of the late Adolph and Elvira (Tamburro) DiOrio. Elvy was a member of the Annunciation Church, formerly in Mingo Junction, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion and the Sons of Italy. She was a homemaker, former employee of Mingo National Bank, and a volunteer at St. Agnes school. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting and puzzles. In addition to her parents, Elvy was preceded in death by her husband Chester Garnek; four brothers, Oswald, Aldo, Alfred and Arnold DiOrio; three sisters, Delia Harper, Gilda Visintine, Delma DiOrio; and two nephews, Mike and Tom Harper. Elvy is survived by a son Marc Garnek and his wife Heidi of North Canton, Oh; a sister Florence Alexander and her husband Robert of Strongsville, Oh; two grand children, Alexis and Adam Garnek of North Canton, Oh; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Tuesday October 6 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Blaschalk-Wilson Funeral Home, 115 Union Ave., Mingo Junction. Friends are then invited to attend services at Mt. Calvary Cemetery Chapel in Steubenville on Wednesday October 7 at 1 pm with Fr. James Dunfee officiating. We love and miss you very much.
