Erma (Benczo) Zatezalo, 85, died January 8, 2010 at Highbanks Care Center in Columbus, OH, surrounded by those who cared for her. She was born July 15, 1924 in Martins Ferry, OH, the daughter of the late John and Mary (Nagy) Benczo. In addition to her parents, Erma is preceded in death by her husband, Mike Zatezalo; brothers Roy, John, Albert and James Benczo; and sisters Margaret Blaine and Rose Benczo. Erma is survived by daughter Rosalyn (Tim) O'Hearn of Shaker Heights, OH; son Michael (Becky) Zatezalo of Strongsville, OH; and daughter, Myra (Richard) Wentworth of Powell, OH. Her six grandchildren, Kelsey and Connor O'Hearn, Zachary and Madeline Zatezalo, and Lucy and Henry Wentworth, will miss her. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Mary Benczo, Joanne Caldwell, Mary DelVecchio; nieces and nephews, and extended family. Erma devoted her life to her family and spent countless hours tending to their needs. She was a thoughtful person and was known for her many splendid meals and desserts. She will always be remembered by those she helped. We thank you Mom. We will miss you every day and will love you forever. Erma was a former employee of the McCrory Store of Wheeling, WV and was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church, Martins Ferry. She lived in Rayland, OH and Martins Ferry for most of her life. Erma and her sister Rose relocated to Powell in 2006 to be closer to family. The last two years she lived at Highbanks Care Center where many who cared for her, also loved her. We send a special thank you to the staff at Highbanks Care Center for embracing Mom with compassion. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There is no visitation. Erma will be buried alongside her husband at Hopewell Cemetery, Rayland, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, 40 N 4th Street, Martins Ferry, OH 43935. Arrangements were by Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH. Condolences to the family may be made by signing the guest book at the top of this page.
