Obituary

Evelyn K. Suriano, formerly of Martins Ferry, Ohio, and most recently of Johnstown, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at the age of 97, at Johnstown Pointe.

She was born in Lansing, Ohio on January 23, 1929, to Michael and Anna (Furimsky) Kovalick.  She graduated from Bridgeport High School and went on to work in the offices of Continental Can Co. and Bloch Bros. Tobacco Co. and retired from the insurance department at East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry, after 25 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Vincent ("Jim") O. Suriano, on January 14, 2021, and by her parents, Michael and Anna (Furimsky) Kovalick, her brothers George and Mike Kovalick, sisters Mildred Berus and Irene Campbell, and an infant sister, Eve.

Surviving are her sons, Vincent (Crystle) Suriano, and Thomas (Kimberly) Suriano; grandchildren, Michael (Sharon) Suriano, Christopher (Haley) Suriano, Susan (David) Selan, and Stephanie (Mark) Foster; great-grandchildren Avery, Addison and Amelia Suriano, Henry, George, and Walt Foster, Wyatt Selan, and Louis and Franco Suriano; brothers, Stephan (Jean) Kovalick and David (Kathy) Kovalick, and sister, Lucy Dailey; and several brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Martins Ferry, where she and Jim attended regularly until they moved to Central Ohio to live with Tom and Kim.

Evelyn was an example of quiet strength and resilience.  She was practical and no-nonsense, yet warm and loving.  She always did what needed to be done for her family.  She never complained. She made countless holidays feel like Hallmark movies, with love and laughter packed into a tiny house full of food and family. She never missed a game, birthday, graduation, or solo.  Her faith grew incredibly strong over time, and she always said that Jesus gave her this extra time on earth to be with her family every day.  In the end, she gave us all one last gift – the true gift of unwavering faith.  She knew that Jesus was coming to take her to Heaven and she had no fear, no doubt, no second thoughts.  Her calming resolve is to be admired and a testament to how she lived her life.

"However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me – the task of testifying to the good news of God's grace."  Acts 20:24.

Evelyn K. Suriano did just that.
