Obituary

Slivka, Frances, A. Petras, 91, of Mingo Junction, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2013 at Gables Care Center, Hopedale, Ohio surrounded by her loving family. Frances was born March 6, 1922, in Yorkville, Ohio, a daughter of the late Steve and Emerencia (Luha) Petras. She was a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and a woman of great faith. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church Mingo Junction. She also was an avid bingo player, and a great pizzelle maker. In her early years she was employed at Weirton Steel Corp. Steubenville Plant. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John E. (Sikey) Slivka, three sisters Pauline Kimble, Ann Yablonski, and Margaret Kovalcik; and seven brothers Steve, Joseph, John, Pete, Lewis, Frank, and George Petras. Frances is survived by three children Jeanne (Jerry) Mazik and John (Michaelene) Slivka both of Mingo Junction; and Joanne (George) Kalnasy of Cleveland, five grandchildren Jerry (Marilyn) Mazik, Bob (Mary) Mazik, Steve (Jessica) Slivka, Andy (Sally) Kalnasy, and Steve (Missy) Kalnasy, 11 great grandchildren Joseph, Bethany, Colleen, Megan Mazik, George, Leslie, Emmalie, Bradley, Brandon, Brittney, Brianna Kalnasy, three sisters-in-law Shirley Petras of Steubenville, Mary Petras of Pittsburgh, and Margaret Timcho of Mingo Junction. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends including those at Gables Care Center. A special thank you to the entire staff at Gables Care Center for the wonderful and loving care Frances received. Friends will be received on Sunday August 18, 2013 at St. Agnes Catholic Church Mingo Junction from 3-8 pm, and then on Monday August 19, from 9 am till time of Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 10 am, with Fr. James M. Dunfee as celebrant, interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery Steubenville. Wake service will be recited on Sunday at 7:45 pm at the Church. Blaschalk-Wilson Funeral Home 115 Union St. Mingo Junction assisting the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Gables Care Center Activities 351 Lahm Drive Hopedale, Ohio 43976, St. Agnes Catholic Church, or The Order of the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts of Jesus and Mary, 48765 Annapolis Rd.
