Francis Andrew Obusek, 80, of Barnesville, Ohio, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, Friday, May 15, 2015 at Barnesville Health Care Center. He was born September 16, 1934 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, son of the late Frank Joseph Obusek and Viola Pomnian Obusek.
Francis graduated from Elizabeth Forward High School in 1952 and attended Penn State University from 1952 to 1956, earning a degree in Teaching and Agriculture. From 1956 to 1957, he taught in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania and worked on several farms in Butler County. He returned to Elizabeth to work his poultry business from 1961 to 1964. In 1965, Francis came to Barnesville to begin his teaching career at Barnesville High School in Industrial Arts and Special Education. He married Nancy Phillips in 1968. In the 1980's, he was responsible for the Audio-Visual system in the Barnesville School District and retired in 1995. A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Francis and his family spent weekends relaxing at Piedmont Lake, enjoying their family cabin and pontoon boat. An avid reader, Francis was an all-around handyman, community oriented person, sharing his kind heartedness with everyone.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Obusek; brother, George Obusek; and grand-nephew, Austin Obusek.
Francis is survived by his daughter, Susie (Jim) Callihan of Barnesville, Ohio; son, Frank Obusek of Ashville, North Carolina; grandchildren, Melanie, David, and Kaylee Callihan and Emily Obusek; sister, Patricia (Barry) Stanley of Altoona, Pennsylvania; aunts, Mildred Toots Rafferty, Eleanor Jacob, Jean Obusek, JoAnn Obusek; and many nieces, nephews, and friends
Family and friends will be welcome to visit, Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m., Kelly Kemp Braido & Patron Funeral Homes & Crematory, 702 E. Main Street, Barnesville, Ohio where the service will be conducted, Monday 1 p.m. Pastor Edward Eberhart and Monsignor Mark Froehlich officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.
